These creative and active workshops will introduce the fundamentals of movement for creative use of the body, voice and character development. The class will incorporate techniques such as stretch, placement, strength, and body awareness as well as creating character, emotion, and storytelling through movement. Presented by Truro Anglican Church and the City of Fairfax Theatre Company.

Erik Sampson, Instructor
Erik Sampson began his dance training at age 17 at Ballet New England (BNE), under the direction of Michael Tevlin (Univ. Cincinnati). After studying with the BNE II Company for two years, Erik continued his education at Belhaven University, where he received the Bezalel Award for outstanding artistic achievement and graduated with a Bachelors of Fine Art. Erik gained additional education in training programs at both the American Ballet Theater and Hubbard Street Dance Chicago and was a trainee with Stephen J Wynne’s TALK Dance Co. In 2012, Erik took part in collaboration between Belhaven University and the Dong Ah Institute for Media Arts (DIMA) exploring the genre of dance for camera. Afterwards, Erik moved to Houston, TX as a company member with Uptown Dance Company. Erik has performed both classical and contemporary works while working alongside artists such as Caleb Mitchell (Houston Ballet), Steve Brule (Oklahoma Univ.), Chet Walker (Creator and Co-Choreographer of FOSSE), and Randall Flinn (Ad Deum Dance Company). In addition to his work with a
variety of companies throughout the Houston area, Erik has also choreographed and served as a contemporary consultant and adjudicator for several schools and companies.
